How to find a short domain name

I was searching for a short domain from a long time, and when I found this ilv.me, I couldn’t resist buying it.

As you might know, making endless searches on registrars like godaddy or name.com doesn’t help you find a great domain. So here is a guide on how I managed to find this domain. (And got ideas for more)

  1. Know what you want to do with the domain
Make up your mind on what you want to do with the domain. I wanted to start a URL shortner for personal use, so I’as looking for something easy to remember and as short as possible.
  2. Look up for brand new domains
It is always a good option to buy brand new domains (i.e. those which have not been registered earlier by someone else)
For this I recommend domainsbot.com. Make sure to play around with tons of options available there.
Once you have some idea of availability, improve upon your keywords and ideas
  3. Take a dive into expired domains
Expired domains are a great way to find cool domain names, as someone must have already done some research before he/she registered that domain, so you’re sure that you won’t see absurd results like lsukhgvenrlg.com ;)
The best free expired domain database we found was at expireddomains.net. (We are in no way affiliated with them). On registering there (I did with a 10MinuteMail.com temporary email, as I did not trust them initially), you can get access to the complete database and search on the basis of various criteria.
  4. Finally, register a cool domain
Once you’ve made up your mind, and found a domain that’s available, it’s time to register it.
You can do to godaddy.com and make final checks to see if they are still available. Then register it with your favorite provider (Mine is godaddy.com, given the number of $2.00, $0.99 and other promotion offers it runs regularly)

As a The Technofreak Reader, you can register a .com domain name for just $1.99 for limited time. Click here  to automatically apply the $1.99 .com coupon code on godaddy.com
